What makes a thriller film opening?

A thriller film contains:​

  • Acts of violence - No emphasis on the killing of people + No gore scenes

  • Suspenseful music - Parallel to the scene

  • Fast paced editing - Fast paced intertwined with suspense music to make the scene synchronous

  • Unpredictable elements - Jump scares

  • Plot twists

  • Isolation

  • Idea of being on the run and desperate to hide 

  • Fight scenes

  • Abduction

  • Being framed 

  • Romantic element

  • Low level lighting - Dark, gloomy 

  • Haunting - ghosts

  • Suspenseful music 

  • An establishing shot 

  • Credits

Conventions:

  • Threat, murder which is mainly done by a serial killer

  • Loud sound effects used to jumpscare the audience

  • Puzzles would be used for a detective to solve, in most crime thrillers there are a duo of detectives, a man and a woman or sometimes detectives of the same gender​

  • Low level lighting

  • Weapons would be used in the film by the threat 

  • Usually multiple murders

Political Thrillers

  • Feeling isolated 

  • Corruption involved with the government 

  • Violence

  • Explosions 

  • Weapons used 

  • No gore

  • On the run from the government
